Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site Tourism Strategy

A collaborative process has been used over the course of 2015 to develop a Tourism Strategy for the Maloti-Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site.   The process has involved numerous stakeholders from the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa, who have collectively develop a common vision and a coordinated and integrated strategy for the entire destination.

Participants received guidance from a coordination and resource team comprised of Programme Specialists from the World Heritage Centre in Paris, the UNESCO Multi-sectoral Regional Office for Southern Africa and the African World Heritage Foundation.   Dr Anna Spenceley facilitated the final workshop in this process in November 2015, and then worked with stakeholders to update their draft strategy using heir diverse experience of the destination and the the UNESCO Sustainable Tourism Toolkit.
